CyberPlat: 10th anniversary of the electronic payment market in Russia

Ten years ago CyberPlat carried out the first payment in favor of a mobile network operator in Russia.

On the 12th of August, the largest in Russia and CIS countries electronic payment system CyberPlat effected its first transaction which replenished an account of a subscriber to the largest mobile network operator Beeline online. On that date, there began a dynamic development of electronic commerce in Russia. This business grew into a significant stock market with a multibillion turnover for ten years. It gives jobs to tens of thousands of Russians and affects the life of the whole country’s population.

Today, it is not only the Internet and bank card payments which are used in the electronic commerce. The main financial flows are collected in cash through the widest and fast growing network of retail payment acceptance outlets and self-service terminals. The general number of the CyberPlat system payment acceptance outlets comprised over 150,000 points, and including the sub-dealer outlets – about 200,000 points, by the beginning of August, 2008.

Created by the CyberPlat system, a well-developed payment infrastructure provided for the majority of population in Russia, Kazakhstan, the Ukraine and Uzbekistan an opportunity to pay for the telecommunication services, housing and public utilities, commercial television, security alarm systems, air-tickets, etc. in a fast and safe way. This gave Russians and citizens of a number of CIS countries an opportunity to pay for numerous services conveniently and comfortably. After all, the payment acceptance outlets are located practically everywhere – in specialized retail and terminal networks, large and small stores, post offices, telecommunication shops, chemist’s shops and gas stations.

For all 10 years of work in the electronic payments market, the CyberPlat Company has been showing a dynamic and steady growth of the main indicators of its activity – the number of transactions, the turnover and the number of payment acceptance outlets. In the aggregate of these indicators, CyberPlat ® is the indisputable leader in the payment acceptance market in Russia and CIS counties. Such sectors of the electronic commerce market, as payments for municipal services, sale of air-tickets, credit repayment acceptance and replenishment of card accounts of the leading Russian banks also have a positive growth dynamics.

New players appear in it: for instance, more banks began to connect to the CyberPlat payment system lately, especially those specializing in retail business. We expect that along with the mass introduction of the 3G networks this market will get an additional impulse due to offering of the new payable services by the mobile network operators.
