CyberPlat’s project for developing the software in open codes for payment terminals switches to the Open Source classic technology

The release versions of the terminal software, developed and maintained by the CyberPlat® experts until recently are the basis for further development and elaboration of the software. Today, these versions are widely used by the operators of terminal networks, because unlike the software of competing systems, they allow any modifications with due respect to the specificity of their use and their location, and offer the operators an opportunity of promoting their own and not an outside brand, thus, without imposing any unnecessary products upon them.

The withdrawal from the concept of software development within the company which has created the product, and transition to the classical mode of an open initial code (Open Source) has been stipulated by growth of popularity and the scale of using the terminals software developed by the CyberPlat® experts. The important advantage of the new product over internal projects is its faster development due to constant cooperation of different groups of developers among themselves and with the community of Open Source products users.

According to Andrey Gribov, President and CEO of CyberPlat OJSC, «the development of the company and evolution of its products to the level of actual industry standards required a transition from the in-house (in the company) software modification method to a more effective classical Open Source format more appropriate for the global market. Changing the development technology will enable a considerable expansion of the functionality and a raise the operation reliability of our terminal software within quite a short time».

While previously only Cyberplat payment system experts at their absolute discretion could make all necessary changes in the terminal software package, within the framework of the new concept CyberPlat® offers an opportunity to participate in improvement of the software to all market players and independent developers. In this case, CyberPlat® acts as the moderator and the integrator of all developers’ efforts, as well as the owner of the platform where they have discussions and exchange with results of their activity. The company administration is sure that the synergy effect distinguishing all projects in the Open Source mode (it is enough to recollect the well-known Linux) will quickly tell on this project, and, as early as possible, will allow to create the high-quality terminal software package which meets all requirements of this business and has the capacity for improvements as the time requires and can even be ahead of these time requirements.

From the technological point of view, the project has the following features:

• The initial code of the version has been prepared for Windows OS,
• Some components of the program are available in the form of binary libraries,
• The code is provided to participants in the «read-only» mode - if the project participant wants to make his code accessible, the code will sent to moderators for control and publication.

The use of the Open Source technology in the terminal software development by the CyberPlat® payment system provides huge scalability of the project without increasing the operating costs.
